Exams
Examinations are a great way to motivate and encourage students to work hard on their repertoire and challenge themselves to improve. AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) is recognised professionally not only within Australia but also internationally and they are the most respected boards in this field. Students are encouraged to sit for exams, however it is not compulsory if the student prefers not to take exams for various reasons. Please see www.ameb.nsw.edu.au for more information.
Recitals
We showcase two recitals each year. A Community Recital held in a local nursing home and the Studio Presentation Day. Students have the opportunity to perform as a solo and/or duet and enjoy the company of other piano students and their families as audience. At the Studio Presentation Day students are rewarded with trophies, certificates and medals their achievements. Please ‘Studio Reward System’ for details in the Studio Policy.
Competitions
Students have the opportunity to participate in competitions sponsored by local or state or national music organisations. Performance and competition opportunities are incentives to help students set and attain worthy goals. These will help students to develop self-confidence, stage-presence, and discipline while expressing musical creativity. Goals for these competitions do not have to be for ‘winning’ but rather to share their music, experience variety of repertoire and training for performance. Students wishing to participate in these competitions are encouraged to practice 7 days each week, 1-5 hours of practice depending on their level.
Piano Camps & Ice cream parties
Piano Camps are offered in the school holidays organised by the teacher. Students are put into groups to play music theory games to enhance their general / musical knowledge, perform for each other, do music and piano related crafts, learn about composers, composition skills, aural and sight reading skills. Ice cream parties are arranged for students who achieve 25 pieces by the end of week 9 in term one. They can bring a friend along to their piano lesson in week 10 of term 1. Enjoy ice cream or sweets together, perform on piano for their friend and play music games together.
Master-classes
Prior to recitals, master-classes are conducted. Students gather together to perform for one another and receive feedback from their peers and teacher regarding their performance. This gives students the opportunity to perform in a relaxed setting while sharing their joy in learning the piano, which motivate and boost their confidence in piano performance.
